The Orange Tree Pub is an up it’s own ass, overpriced soul-less pub with very poor food and imbeciles behind the bar.

Today, I was in desperate need of an Internet connection in Richmond Town Centre, the Orange Tree apparently provide a wireless hub connected to premium providers as far as I could ascertain from the net, but on calling the pub I was greeted with “I dunno mate, we’re a pub” – no shit I thought, since when I called the first thing I said was hello, is that the Orange Tree Pub!

I decided to take my chances and catch a bus and go in, OK I thought, this isn’t bad, it was quite quiet and plenty of space to sit down. So I found a seat with a plug socket, went over plugged my laptop into the plug socket and was about to sit down when one of the barmen shouted across the room

Oi sir that doesn’t go in there… I turned around and said excuse me? Wondering what he meant, and he repeated himself, that doesn’t go in there! I said what doesn’t go in where – quite confused as this is a pub that offers an Internet service by all accounts, and after all if he was talking about the socket, it obviously does, as it’s a plug and that on the wall was a socket. “Did you just plug that into our main’s?” he said, “Yes, why?” I said, “we don’t allow computers in here sir!”…. really I thought, “but you do wireless Internet, and I’m going to buy at least one drink and some food” “Sorry sir, the manager doesn’t allow computers in here…”FINE” I said, and went off looking elsewhere.

Finally I came to O’Neills – very friendly and very nice staff they let me plug in the laptop, but unfortunately there was no wireless here so I wasted £3 on a Guinness for nothing, but at least it gave me a little time to charge the monster up and write this short article!

Upshot, if you want to drink in a place with unfriendly, aggressive staff and shit food that’s way overpriced go to the orange tree – if on the other-hand you want to have a decent night out or do some work which doesn’t require a net connection go to O’Neills!
