Southampton OSA Chapter

The Optical Society of AmericaWhilst on my PhD course at the University of Southampton’s Optoelectronics Research Centre I became a member of the Optical Society of America’s University of Southampton Student Chapter and as such became both their website developer and schools liaison officer (running science workshops on light and light technology for children).

During my time at Southampton I re-designed and developed a whole new website for the Chapter based around a content management system style setup, so that “non- techy” administrators of the website could update portions with ease and thereby solve the problem of the previous website which had not really been updated for 4-5 years due to lack of people with the time or knowledge to do so.

This redesign also launched other chapters into action with the development of their website’s and as such is leading to a better web presence of all such Chapters around the globe as well as a new initiative for online sharing of optics educational resources between Chapters who run science workshops for kids.
